Still, it featured amazing performances by high-divers, synchronized swimmers, dancers, and aerial artists. The digitally enhanced dome added a layer of storytelling and immersion into this fast-paced, meticulously choreographed show. But you can’t go wrong with popcorn chicken or a pizza toastie at the nearby Surfside Bites. This takeout window also has burgers, hotdogs, and irresistible cinnamon churros. We appreciated the perfectly sized portions and fresh food quality. But, I was fond of the gyros from Feta Mediterranean, the ginger beef from GNGR, and the strawberry Nutella crepe.

Cruisers can also get some liquid courage from the rum-based specialty cocktails at the Basecamp Bar in Thrill Island. When it comes to casual eats, El Loco Fresh still serves up Tex-Mex nachos, burritos, and tacos on the pool deck until around 8 pm. Royal Caribbean boasts that there are over 40 ways to eat and drink on Icon of the Seas. Of course, we made sure to try all of the restaurants during our sailing. The Crown’s Edge is Royal Caribbean’s attempt at a ropes course on one of its ships. This up-charge activity is set to a theme where adventurers need to escape from Thrill Island.
Icon of the Seas Cruise Ship: Review, Photos

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed all the entertainment and recommend cruisers reserve all available live entertainment pre-cruise. We believe these spectacles will amaze you even if you are not a show person. The most significant change to the Icon class is relocating the AquaTheater to the top of the ship on Deck 15 forward in the AquaDome neighborhood.

Chill Island
The newly themed Thrill Island includes many staples found on other ships in the fleet along with some firsts at sea. On Deck 15, there’s the record-breaking Royal Bay Pool on the starboard side. Given its large footprint, two whirlpools, and several in-pool chairs along with a variety of other lounge options, this popular pool never felt overwhelmed with cruisers. Leaving roundtrip out of Miami, before the official inaugural sailing (Jan 27th), Icon OTS had several shakedown/test cruises.

Though these restaurants are not complimentary offerings, they are absolutely worth a visit, especially if you're one to crave tacos at any moment. Immediately upon entering our room, the bathroom was to the right on the midship wall. The bathrooms were redesigned, offering a rectangular shower with a glass door and a seat. This new layout was a nice change from the tubular showers found on most other Royal Caribbean vessels.
Or, they can enjoy the scenic surroundings of Central Park with a glass of champagne from Bubbles, the new champagne bar takeout window. This venue offers the standard beverage menu, with a new tapas menu that is available for an upcharge. Like many aspects of Icon of the Seas, Royal Caribbean took its typical sports deck to new heights.

Grownups can hang back at Water’s Edge pool as the kiddos play at Splashaway Bay and Baby Bay, complete with slides, fountains, water cannons, a drench bucket and more. It was originally slated to be the adults-only area, but Royal Caribbean changed that to The Hideaway and made Cloud 17 open to all guests. Royal Caribbean has plans for the best pool deck at sea with Chill Island. The jazz club will be a new spot to offer "jazz in the park" as passengers stop in for a set. The open-air garden neighborhood will have living plants, where you can enjoy all sorts of dining and entertainment.
If you are a fan of seafood, you will appreciate Hooked Seafood, which serves up delicious New England-style seafood, such as Maryland crab cakes, Maine Lobster rolls, and other raw bar favorites. On Icon of the Seas, it will be located directly underneath the AquaDome. The Icon of the Seas will become the biggest cruise ship in the world when it debuts in early 2024. Royal Caribbean has introduced new kinds of cruise cabins for the first time ever with the launch of Icon of the Seas. Royal Caribbean will offer a combination of new and fan-favorite bars to enjoy.
This new cruise ship boasts seven pools, all with a unique vibe and design. These pools are also scattered around the ship, with Decks 15, 16, and 17 comprising what you would typically think of a pool deck. Heidi and I have sailed on the world’s largest cruise ships from all the major cruise lines. So, we thought we knew what to expect boarding Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas. Absolute Zero (decks 4-5) is an Ice-Rink Arena and RCI fleet's largest ice-skating stadium (complimentary show lounge/theater). Daily, Absolute Zero is operated with 45-min sessions (max 50 guests per session) for ice-skating, ice games, hockey, demonstrations, adult scavenger hunts.
So, even though we were worried about crowds, there were never any issues. This surprised us, as we were initially concerned that the ship’s design would inevitably not disperse passengers as planned and lead to crowding. We were fortunate to spend 10 days sailing on the brand-new Icon of the Seas. With all this time, we saw all the shows, tested the new food and beverage offerings, and finally figured out how to get around this 250K+ GT mega-ship.
Half of the ship’s 28 cabin categories are new to the line, including the much-talked about three-level Ultimate Family Townhouse, which costs a cool $80,000 a week and includes a slide from the top level down. The ship also comes with a higher price tag than any of the other vessels in Royal Caribbean’s fleet. Many of its Caribbean sailings start at nearly $200 per person per night, based on double occupancy.
There are new categories of cabins, new neighborhoods, and views never offered before on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship. Category 6 is the new water park that has six water slides, including an open free-fall slide, the tallest drop slide at sea, family raft slides that accommodate four riders at once, and two mat-racing slides. High above Surfside, at the back of Deck 15, is The Hideaway — Royal Caribbean's take on a beach club. The main attraction here is the first suspended infinity pool at sea. It's flanked by tiered lounge space, hot tubs and a bar specializing in Champagne and Champagne-based cocktails. Icon of the Seas may not have a Boardwalk, but it will offer its own version of that neighborhood's popular AquaTheater.
Onboard Icon of the Seas℠, this large play space offers a variety of different team activities, including basketball, volleyball, pickleball and dodgeball. You don't need to make a reservation or pay a fee to enjoy the Sports Court at any point during your cruise — just keep in mind that equipment is subject to availability and is first come, first served. While some cruise lines have reduced their balcony sizes on newer ships, this one was deeper than expected. The two chairs, small table, and ottomans made it the perfect place to do a little work in the afternoon or to watch our sail away from ports. Given our room location, support beams did partially block the view though. Across the various venues, there were other activities staff-led events.
